Galabingo.com Domain Name Sells For £33,000
23 May 2007
In an unexpected auction, BingoPort.co.uk has learnt that the domain name galabingo.com has sold for $65,750 (approx £33,000) through the expired domain name service, Snapnames.
We are busy trying to find out who eventually won the domain name, but the screenshot (left) of the auction progress and winning bid shows the person is known as ‘chelsea’. It can be seen that some spirited bidding took place to get to that point.
The dot com version of GalaBingo, which is the best known online and offline bingo brand in the UK, has never been owned by The Gala Group. Their popular online bingo site is run under their GalaBingo.co.uk domain name.
An insider at Gala Bingo informed us that they had tried to acquire the galabingo.com domain name on several occassions over the past few years, without success due to the registrant not responding to requests. Recently, the contact for the domain name was rendered invalid by ICANN (the head body of dot com domain names) and as a result the domain name eventually expired.
In what might come as a shock to industry heavyweights, the dot com version of the biggest name in UK bingo went to auction - awarded to the highest bidder.
At this time, we’ve been unable to ascertain if Gala Group purchased the domain name, however if they didn’t surely they’ll be kicking themselves today.

The domain was officially won by Gala Coral Group. It has been said that they were annoyed that the bidding got as high as it did.
