Two New Bingo Site Call Stories…

June and Moira were devoted bingo players. Every Friday night they would get dolled up and head down to Mecca in there local town…

Now Moira and June as kind and caring as they were tended to indulge on the bar snacks and cider.
Recently the two larger ladies had been low on luck and were being to lose their motivation (although there was no great motivation being the size they were) to get up and go. HHowever this cold and stormy night regular as clockwork Junes ever doted husband showed up at the door of Moira’s bungalow to drop them into town. Both ladies had a good feeling about tonight so were ever so anxious to get to the hall and take advantage of the early bird!!!!!
As the two ladies squeezed there larger bottoms into the booths dabbers at the ready the ladies initial feelings were beginning to waver… 3 books down and still not a penny between them..

As the bingo caller announced the National game was about to start the ladies were almost inconsolable after losing there dole money on the slot machines. Eyes down for a full house and we begin.
The beads of sweat began to form on Moira’s forehead as she realised she only needed two numbers for the house 37 & 88.
Now unbeknown to June Moira sweat beads were not from the Big Mac she scoffed in the break and was beginning to wonder how she would manage to get Moira in the back of her husbands car….
2& 9 29 3&7 37. By now Moira had begun to hold her breath knowing she is only waiting for that ever so close 88… All the 8s 88

HOUSEEEEEEE and on only 38 numbers.
Moira sprang from her seat as quick as lighting and being the only caller on the house she knew she was in for the running for the Jackpot of £88,000 . June after her being slapped repeatedly by Moira with excitement is now waiting for that suddenly handsome bingo caller to announce her windfall.
And the ladies were in luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What a night… With all the excitement the two ladies could not speak and the ever polite bingo caller announced over the tannoy that the two fat ladies in the corner had won the £88,00 the most ever won at that club… so instead of naming the balls after them as June and Moira didn’t really have a ring to it they decided upon nicknaming the 88 ball with two fat ladies… Word soon spread as Moira had married the 29year old bingo caller and bought a yacht they sailed the world promoting bingo and become famous..

And that ladies and gentleman is how the 88 ball is named Two Fat Ladies…

Hi I’m rosiew1979 and here is my story on how a bingo number got its saying

There was a man called Dave who’s grandma used to hate his parents and she always accused them of wanting to have her die so they could get hold of her money his father used to say mum stop we love you and your 85 there’s no way of you going anywhere for a long time so she used to shout back at them yes I am 85 I’m 85 and staying alive it used to be her little saying she shouted it all the time at them thinking that it would worry them but bless her she died before she reached 86 now when Dave grew up he decided to open a bingo hall and wanted to put his own spin on the number calling he was doing well until he got to 85 and was stuck he couldn’t think what to call it after a couple of days racking his brains he was at home looking through a photo album when he came across a photo of his Nan when all of a sudden he could hear her shouting at the top of her voice 85 and staying alive so that’s how that number got its name when people came to his bingo hall and he would call the numbers he would tell his story how the number call came about and the story and the number went from bingo hall to bingo hall well that’s my version anyway

Two fat ladies Bingo Call
Hi I just want to relate to you how the bingo call two fat ladies came about here in New Zealand.

This is in actual fact a true story. Here in New Zealand what you call bingo we call housie, now when i was in my teens my mother and other members of my extended whanau(family) started a housie night and one of my aunties used to call at this housie along with her sister and my mother. Both my aunties were big woman and thats no exageration. At first 88 was called as billybunter all the eights, one night my two aunties were arguing about who was going to call the first ten houses, my aunty nan was in a hurry to go to the local pub so she asked my mum if she could call the first ten, my uncle Jim got quite upset about it as the housie was run as a fundraiser for our local marae, and every one was supposed to be there for the duration of the housie which was only forty games back then. Uncle Jim turned to both my aunties and said to them and i quote (U two fat b*****s) started this housie now u will stay and finish what u started,
and when uncle jim spoke they listened because he was our kaumatua(chief) and he was not impressed with his two sisters, so when mum called the first ten houses she literally changed billybunter to two fat ladies and every one in the housie hall clapped and roared and my two aunties were suitably embarrassed
about there behavior. All though it wasn’t actually funny at the time my aunties soon got into the spirit of it and for ever after billy bunter became two fat ladies.
I hope you enjoyed this story because since the 1960s when housie first started and became popular as a fund raiser all the local iwis(subtribes) joined and started there own housies to raise funds for there maraes and child health and education. Generation after generation have continued to call 88 as two fat ladies 88.

Hi, what a fantastic story you wrote rhap_sody and it really does make you think about how the two fat ladies 88 bingo call came about, i have read quite a few different versions on how the two fat ladies came about now and this is by far one of my favourites now. I really like the part about “Both my aunties were big woman and thats no exageration.
