Tombola Bingo to Release New Advertisement
August 4th, 2009

Earlier this year, the Advertising Standards Agency or ASA ruled that Tombola Bingo’s advertising sector was to stop airing their commercial. This ruling was in response to several complaints that was received by the ASA regarding this advertisement. Following the ruling, Tombola Bingo has decided to launch a new advertisement to replace their former commercial.
Many online bingo sites air advertisements on television to promote their websites. These advertisements are subject to scrutiny by a regulatory body called the Advertising Standards Agency. The ASA has strict standards that pertain to the airing of commercials on television, and they have the authority to order the ban of certain commercials if they do not adhere to these standards. Consumers have the right to complain to this body if they find any advertisements offensive by stating the reasons for this complaint. The ASA then takes them into consideration, and makes a ruling depending on the severity of the offence.
In March of 2009, the ASA received several complaints from various consumers that stated that the Tombola Bingo advertisement was not suitable for airing on television. The reasons stated for this claim was that the advertisement proved to be appealing to children and other people under the age of 18. This claim went against the CAP (Broadcast) TV Advertising Standards Code Rule 11.10.2 which pertains to advertisements for gambling. This ruling was despite the fact that Tombola Bingo had approached Clearcast for advice prior to the launch of this advertisement.
The previous advertisement by Tombola Bingo featured fairgrounds, which was the reason that it proved attractive to both children and young adults. The advertisement was accompanied by a wonderfully inviting sound track as well as some fantastic graphics which made it very appealing. In fact, surveys suggest that this was one of the very few advertisements for a bingo website that captured the attention of viewers.
Since the ASA’s order however, the advertisement is to be completely changed. There will be no fairground in the new commercial, and it is said to have a tropical feel to it. The bingo website has taken special care to ensure that this commercial will not be as appealing to the younger crowd, and is aimed only at potential players, over the age of 18. It is being said that this new theme will be part of a new campaign that is being launched by the bingo website, and will be available for viewing on television soon.
