Pink Cow Bingo Organizes Fundraising Event
October 19th, 2009

Pink Cow Bingo is organizing a fun-packed event, Pink Cow Bingo for Breast Cancer, in the Red Barn, Skaneateles, not only to enhance awareness of breast cancer, but also raise funds for breast cancer research this weekend. This will be one of the numerous events organized for the National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Laura Ponticello, the organizer of the event, wrote in an email: “We want to present an original idea that will draw a crowd. My nana was a breast cancer survivor; so I am very conscious of supporting breast cancer patients.” Ms. Ponticello has plans to garner at least $5000 for Positively Pink Packages, one of the popular non profit organizations based in Syracuse, which focuses on supplying free aid to women who have just been diagnosed with breast cancer.
Ms. Ponticello, a resident of Skaneateles and author of Laura’s List: Books for Women, organizes a number of fund raisers to support cancer research and to empower women diagnosed with cancer. Jennifer Tom, the founder of Positively Pink Packages, is a breast cancer survivor.
At Pink Cow Bingo for Breast Cancer, players can purchase as many squares as possible on a large bingo board. The board has 200 squares, priced at $100 for 5 squares. The winners will receive gift certificates, New York Yankees tickets and other gifts and prizes worth $1,200.
To add sparkle to the event, Rohe Farms has donated a couple of cows, which will be decorated in pink by a group of six women. Ms. Ponticello said: “People will just have to come and see how we decorate them. I guarantee it will be a lot of fun.” People can purchase spectator tickets for $15 each. Entry is free for children, who can enjoy pony rides at the event.
The event also includes a port-a-potty decoration competition carrying 2 prizes from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The winners will receive dining certificates worth $150 as well as cookie jars from Mackenzie-Childs. The decorated port-a-potties will be judged by Mary Beth, Loretta Sbaraglia, and Yvonne Conti, a motivational speaker and author of “The Positive Power of Humor.”
The noted author Amy Dickinson will sign her books at the event, which will be enlivened with the live music of singer and lyricist Dusty Pascal. Mirbeau Inn and Spa, Sherwood Inn, Red Rooster Pub, and Creekside Books and Coffee will sell refreshments at the event and donate part of the profits to Positively Pink Packages.
