South Shield Mecca Bingo Fixes X-Factor?
November 11th, 2009

The Shield Gazette has carried several reports on how the support of a bingo club can transform the fortunes of young stars. The bingo club in question is a Mecca Bingo Club, located in South Shields, which has shown great interest in the fortunes of local X-Factor star Joe McElderry. In fact, this weekend’s X-Factor results have been described by many fans as nothing but a “fix.”
The staff and bingo customers of the South Shields Mecca Bingo club are staunch supporters of Joe McElderry. The popular bingo club has accepted Joe as their number-one X-Factor star because he belongs to South Shields, the place where the Mecca Bingo club is located.
Blake Robson, a member of the Mecca Bingo club staff, said: “We all think Joe is great and has lots of talent; so we’re hoping he does very well and ends up winning the show.” Robson, who calls numbers at Mecca Bingo and is also acclaimed as the national bingo caller of 2009, hopes that the young star would visit the bingo club and have a few games of bingo. Robson further said: “We would love it if Joe would call a few games out. He’s more than welcome to come along any time he likes.”
On Saturday evening this week, the twins Edward and John, gave a wonderful performance loaded with fun and laughter to attract their youthful audience. Lucy Jones, another contestant, also gave an amazing and winning performance and won the hearts of many.
Eighteen-year-old Lucy Jones was expected to give her performance for another week at least. Members of social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter had posted innumerable messages on how they were sure that Lucy would win because of her exemplary performance. Even Simon Cowell’s weekly criticism about the twins’ performance made everybody feel that Lucy would be around for a longer time.
But the staff and customers of the MeccaBingo Club at South Shields are encouraged to dial the voting number of Joe McElderry, their 18-year-old local star, and extend their staunch support. This weekend, the efforts of the bingo club have apparently fetched the expected result.
The finals judge, Simon, voted against Lucy, as a result of which she was out of the X-Factor. Currently, Joe McElderry is one of 7 contestants; and surely, he must grateful to the role played by the bingo club back home for extending their support and help.
