US Bingo Site Seized by Department of Justice
July 1st, 2011
Popular U.S facing Bingo site, Fun Time Bingo has had their domain seized by the U.S Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations team in Baltimore, Maryland.
The domain funtimebingo.com now sports the increasingly familiar badges of the Department of Justice and Homeland Security, in what sounds as an all too clear warning to those online gambling business still operating in the U.S market.
Until this latest action, online bingo sites have largely escaped the attention of authorities, with their focus appearing to be directed at the more popular and lucrative poker and casino operators. However, this move will undoubtedly put further pressure on all bingo sites to close their doors to U.S residents, until such time that a regulatory framework is put in place.
The effect on U.K bingo players will be minimal, as all licensed bingo operators in the U.K made the decision long ago to restrict players from the USA. The only bingo sites still accepting players from the U.S are those operating without a U.K recognised licence. Operators holding gaming licences in the popular regions of Gibraltar, Alderney, Malta and Isle of Man all adhere to the U.S gambling restrictions.
