Six Creative Bingo-Inspired Treats

Whether you’re hosting your own bingo fundraiser or just need a little fuel to get through a particularly riveting game, snacks and beverages are perfect partners for bingo. We’ve previously provided plenty of useful tips on food and drink in our guides to hosting a Bonfire Night or Christmas bingo party. But why stop at just having bingo with food? Why not take things up a notch and have bingo-themed food?

In this article, we’ve included six useful ideas of how to incorporate bingo into the food and drink you serve at your next gathering. After all, you can never have too much of a good thing!

Bingo pancakes

Any eagle-eyed readers of the BingoPort blog will remember that we posted a useful recipe for perfect pancakes back in February to coincide with Shrove Tuesday. But there’s no reason why we can’t enjoy these breakfast favourites all year round! Why not start your day the bingo way by making bingo ball pancakes?

If you think it sounds tricky, don’t fret. All you have to do is create some pancake batter the standard way. Then, add the mixture into a piping bag or squeezy bottle. Next, preheat a pan with some butter or oil. Use your bag or bottle to ‘draw’ the design of a bingo ball into your pan, making sure that your design is all connected. Then, simply flip, serve, and pair with your favourite toppings!

Now that we’ve sorted out your bingo breakfast, how about a snack for later? Circular and perfectly formed, it should come as little surprise that we’ve chosen to add some bingo ball pizzazz to the eminently decoratable cupcake. You could even ice a full set of 90 (or 75, depending on whether you prefer UK or US bingo!) cupcakes, each with their own unique number, for a sweet way of calling numbers!

That being said, there’s no reason why you couldn’t go outside of the box with your decorations. Depending on your skill level, you could even add a rice paper bingo card, a sugar-sculpted ball cage, or even a fondant celebrity bingo caller!

Bingo biscuits

Anyone who’s been watching the latest season of The Great British Bake Off will have been wowed by some of the showstoppers that the contestants have whipped up. You might even be up to the challenge of creating one of your own—with a bingo twist, of course. (If this sounds like you, then you need to check out our idea for The Great British Bingo Bake Off!)

So, what’s the plan? It’s up to you how exactly you want to create your bingo biscuit masterpiece, but we love the idea of creating small, circular biscuit counters that you can then use to cover up the numbers on an iced gingerbread bingo card. This is, of course, just one idea—why not try out something different?

Bingo doughnut holes

These bite-sized treats are incredibly easy to make. You’ll likely already have most of the ingredients lying around at home: flour, sugar, baking powder, butter, salt, and milk. You’ll also need a deep fat fryer to transform the mix into delicious doughnut holes.

How does bingo come into all of this? As always, it’s all in the finish. One excellent idea we found on Parents.com suggests dipping the doughnut holes in white chocolate, then piping on icing to turn them into bingo balls. We’re not sure how useful they’d be to play a game with, though—we suspect they’d be snapped up long before anyone could call house!

Bingo cakes

We’ve already explored a plethora of sweet treats on this list, but now it’s time for the granddaddy of them all: bingo cakes. With a bigger canvas at your disposal, you’ve got plenty of room to let your creativity run wild!

A simple Google search will reveal plenty of fabulous designs, with near-endless possibilities: bingo cards, a cage full of numbers, bingo dabbers or even a table of friends playing. This could make a unique and personalised birthday gift—although you’ll need to make sure that you’ve got the cake decorating skills to pull off your designs!

After all that food, you’ll probably want something to wash it down with—and what better way than with a glamorous cocktail? The geniuses over at Absolut have come up with their own Bingo cocktail. Unlike the other recipes on our list, it doesn’t feature a specific bingo reference, but we suspect it would be highly refreshing whilst playing a game or two!
