Guide to 80-Ball Bingo

Article published on July 20, 2017 07:09pm

Variety is the spice of life, and what better way to shake things up than by trying a new type of bingo game? Here at BingoPort we've already looked at 5-line bingo, so now let's take the time to examine another one of the less-common variants: 80-ball bingo.

It might not be as well-loved as the 75 or 90-ball games, but 80-ball bingo's still got a dedicated crowd of followers. Fans of the game argue that it's quicker paced and more exciting than the traditional choices, but not as rushed as 5-line bingo. While a few years ago it was difficult to find places to play 80-ball, there are now countless online casinos which offer it as a choice alongside their other bingo rooms.

But what's the fuss about, and how do you play? Read on for all you need to know...

How to play 80-ball bingo

80-ball bingo's really simple to play. This game has more in common with the 75-ball game than with 90-ball bingo, but there are two key differences to consider: the number of balls, and the layout of the cards.

The cards that are used in 80-ball bingo are laid out in four by four grids. The colmuns are often alternately-coloured so that players can easily tell the difference between them. Each column can only take numbers from within a certain range, and each box contains a number between one and eighty. Then, the game is played in the same way as any other game of bingo! In online bingo halls, the RNG (Random Number Generator) will draw numbers out of a hat, and then it's up to you to match the chosen numbers to the numbers on your cards.

This is roughly how all 80-ball bingo games work, but as this type of bingo is a relatively new game, it's not confined to the same restrictions as 75 and 90-ball bingo. This means that there may be discrepancies between different bingo sites.

How to win

The most common way of winning is by getting a full house, also known as a blackout or coverall win. To do this, you simply have to cross off all 16 numbers on the grid.

Some other versions of 80-ball bingo allow you to win in different ways, for example by playing the 'corners game'. To win this way, you have to cross off all four numbers that sit in the corners of the bingo card.

There are other variations on this, too, for example you may have to cross off the four numbers in the very centre of the card.
